How to choose a mailer size.

Step 1: measure your product flat

Lay your product flat and measure its width, its length and its thickness. A folded T-shirt might be 9″ × 11″ and 1″ thick; a jar of cream 3″ across and 2.5″ tall.

Step 2: add the thickness to both sides

A mailer wraps over its contents, so the thickness comes out of both the width and the length. The inside of the mailer needs to be at least the product’s width plus its thickness, and its length plus its thickness, with a little extra down the length so the flap closes flat.

The welds take some room too: a poly mailer loses about 0.8″ across and 0.7″ down to its side and bottom welds and the flap, a bubble mailer about 1.3″ and 0.9″ to its wider welds and lining. The order page’s Size it to my product does this math and picks the smallest of our sizes that fits.

Poly mailer sizes

Poly mailers come in 13 sizes, each named by its outside size: 11 in white, black, pink, blue or recycled film, and Compostable Poly Mailers in 4 (two of them only compostable). 10″ × 13″ is the most ordered: it fits a folded T-shirt.

Bubble mailer sizes

Bubble mailers come in 8 sizes, each named by its outside width × height like a poly mailer: Poly Bubble Mailers in 5, and paper bubble mailers (white, kraft or gold paper) in 3. The inside is smaller by the welds and the bubble lining, so check the inside column against your product.

Bigger than our largest mailer?

We make the 21 sizes above. If your product needs more room than a 19″ × 24″ poly mailer, a custom box may suit it better. On every size, the seal flap adds 1.2″ to 1.6″ on top and is not counted in the size.

Poly or bubble?

Size first, then type: use a poly mailer for anything that can’t break and a bubble mailer for anything that needs cushioning. Our poly vs bubble mailer guide compares the two.

What size poly mailer do I need for a T-shirt?

A folded T-shirt fits a 10″ × 13″ poly mailer, the most ordered size. A hoodie or a few shirts usually need a 12″ × 15.5″ or a 14.5″ × 19″.

What size is a #2 bubble mailer?

A #2 bubble mailer holds contents up to about 8.5″ × 12″. We name bubble mailers by their outside size instead: our 10″ × 13″ bubble mailer holds what a #2 does.

Is the mailer size the inside or the outside?

On our order page it is the outside: the flat width and height of the finished mailer, the seal flap not counted. It is the same for poly and bubble mailers.
